Kinda gross... sorry... but one of the great things about working in a school is that the nurse always has tampons. God bless the school nurses and their endless supplies! |

I've been having this string of days lately where I work insane hours but I don't feel like I actually get anything done. I've worked 32 hours in the last 3 work days and I'm still barely prepared for tomorrow! Scratch that... technically, I'm *not* prepared for tomorrow. My "plan" in 2 classes is to wing it. And it seems like all the worksheets and tests I make up lately turn out to be crap. Too hard, too long, or both [*cough thatswhatshesaid cough*] So I have to go in early tomorrow to finish tomorrow's planning, then throughout the day I have to grade their tests from last week which will take hours, make up a test for a different class (which I should have done today but didn't) and finish planning this week and next week. The up side is that there's only 7 more days of classes until vacation! |

Random quote for the week: "You should marry him. Or at least use him to father us a grandchild"
Not that any parents I'm related to were pressuring me last night to have kids despite the lack of a daddy figure in the picture. She suggested I adopt a baby. "You'd make a great mom!" blech. |

You ever just feel insignificant? Like, does it really matter if I get out of bed or not? Because the truth of the matter is, my entire weekend has been like that. And really, other than work when does it make a difference? Today I just feel like I'm wasting my life away but I don't know what to do about it so I'm watching TV and knitting a scarf. All day. It's pretty much what I did yesterday too. Is that not the most pathetic and lonely thing ever? |

Things I never thought I'd actually say:
Today I told a student "I'm not failing you. You're failing yourself". Oh good lord, who is this woman and why does she say things like that?
I've also said "because I said so" (usually in response to "why do we have to do this") And last year I found myself telling a student "You go to school to work, not for a fashion show". And proceded to freak out because I had identified with the parents in that Fresh Prince song. |

| VEGAS! |
[Oct. 14th, 2008|07:57 pm] |
Sorry folks, details stay in Vegas. But if you really need some teasers, there was lots of booze, lots of good food, lots of relaxing, mild nudity, and I managed to convince casino security to give me $20 and let me walk away. Oh, and a trip to Ubran Outfitters single handedly restored my desire to care about how I look. :)
The flight home was heavenly - 4 hours of Lost on JetBlue's direct TV, the potentially annoying girls in my row passed out on Xanax, and the pilot got us into NY 30 minutes early!
The cats are good now (thanks again for taking care of them Karen!) Schroeder seemed happy to see me last night, but Linus was aloof at first. He warmed up a bit after I cleaned his litter box, and by breakfast this morning all was forgiven.
This was the perfect vacation. Must make a habit out of it. Same time next year perhaps? |

Snippet from Geometry today:
Girl Student: [makes a good observation] Me: [agrees and praises the observation] Boy Student who wasn't listening: [makes same observation] Me: That's what she said.
I really have to start thinking before I open my mouth in that class. |

Yesterday I gave a Jewish guilt trip to a Catholic nun. I don't think she knew what to do with it... I got the impression that people don't often try to guilt nuns into doing things. heh
(she's a sweet old lady who's having some leg problems and insists on taking the stairs instead of the elevator. I guilted her about it) |

You Are Stalking
|

You tend to be very obsessive. Once you focus your attention on something or someone, it's all you think about.
You are also very secretive. People don't know much about the life that you lead.
You are attracted to weak people. You may want to prey on them, but you also may just want to help them.
You need attention, and you can get desperate if you aren't getting attention from the right person. You'll do about anything to get noticed.

Friday I made my students celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day. Mostly this was accomplished by using "r" instead of "x" in my examples that had variables. Then in Geometry I named an angle "YAR" to really get into the spirit. Then I needed to show what an adjacent angle looks like so I added ray G thinking "GAR is sort of pirate-y". Unfortunately, this also led to the creation of angle "GAY". In an attempt to curb the laughing that erupted, I changed the G to an H. This mght have worked had my next sentence not been "So now, lets move on. Who can tell me what a straight angle is"
I gotta start plkanning these things better! |

And the prophet said Fear not, for there is a divine light illuminating your path and it shall lead you in the right direction. And though you may have doubts, your karma is good and good things shall happen to you in return. And lo though you shall suffer the consequences of many other choices before you find the path, all shall be right in the end, for you deserve it.
Verily I say unto you, there exists a place where coworkers are not cliquish and nasty, where the coordinators are supportive of all their teachers regardless of years of experience, and where you shall be happy.
Todays reading comes to you from the New Book of J., chapter and verse TBD. |

Don't know if anyone else watches the BBC series Robin Hood, but I just finished watching series 2. This show is my new obsession, and I have to wait like another year for the series 3 DVDs to come out!
